About Today Readings

St Patrick

Jeremiah 1:4-9. Go out to all the world, and tell the Good News – Ps 116(117). Acts 13:46-49. Luke 10:1-12, 17-20.

God’s steadfast love

Today’s readings speak of God’s steadfast, faithful love, calling us beyond our doubts and fears.

‘But I am only a child,’ says Jeremiah. ‘Do not be afraid,’ replies God. In the Gospel we are reminded that there are not enough labourers for God’s plentiful harvest. The seventy sent out to share the good news are told to carry no purse, no bag and no sandals. But they are also promised that ‘nothing will hurt you’.

In our society we cling to our possessions, thinking they will somehow keep us safe from the troubles of the world. God is asking us to leave our possessions behind and share ourselves with our troubled world. Are we brave enough to share a message of a love that changes lives?
