It is in silence where pure love is found
Family is the foundation of a person’s identity. Our family is much more than those we are related to. It is made up of all who love, honour and desire the best for us. The head of our family is God and we believe that in the communion of saints we are connected to all those of faith – to those living and living eternally. Belonging is a vital component of human lives. Irish mystic John O’Donohue maintained that, ‘One of the tasks of true friendship is to listen compassionately and creatively to the hidden silences. Often secrets are not revealed in words, they lie concealed in the silence between the words or in the depth of what is unsayable between two people.’ Spend time today reflecting on these thoughts and consider who your ‘family’ is, and how the silence you share with them is the most precious and life-giving gift you receive in the silence of these relationships. It’s in the silence where pure love is found, and this is where God is present.
