Hebrews 6:10-20. The Lord will remember his covenant for ever – Psalm110(111):1-2, 4-5, 9, 10. Mark 2:23-28.
Hope is the steadfast anchor of our souls
The author of the letter to the Hebrews writes, in the first reading, of a sure hope within us, a steadfast anchor of the soul. It enters our inner shrine, inside or behind the curtain. The curtain refers to the curtain surrounding the ark of the covenant (Lv 16:2). Inside that curtain was the sanctuary of God. The hope that is in us comes from God who is in us. The Sabbath was made for humankind, so that we could find time each week to honour and thank the God who is in us. Never could the Sabbath become more important than humanity, the whole collection of God’s sons and daughters made in his own image, and containing behind the curtain in their own inner souls the mystery and presence of the God who loves us into life. Hope is the steadfast anchor of our souls. God is that hope.Email this Print This Page
