Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit

Many parables, including this one from Luke emphasise that as Christians, we need to be constantly aware of the importance of ‘being awake and alert.’ We need to be prepared so that when Jesus does come, we will be ready to open the door to him. It is a great gift to understand we have come from God and will return to God. It enables us to place our whole lives into a proper prospective. Life is a challenging journey and it is not easy for us to be prepared for every unexpected occurrence in our lives. Remaining close to Jesus is what keeps this awareness alive. The Gospel tells us: ‘Be dressed for action’ and blessed are those who are ready and alert. Lord, help us to live with our lamps lit and always ready to welcome you into our lives.
