Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Matthew 9:9-13.
Who do we invite to our table?
I was walking along Collins St one morning on my way to a conference early on a chilly Melbourne winters morning. I was shocked to see a pile of blankets that as I got closer was in-fact a homeless person sleeping rough. Feeling powerless and not wishing to offer condescending words or actions I walked on. Further on, I came across another homeless man. Although he had a coffee and was having a smoke he was invisible to the people who walked past. I stopped and asked his name and how he was. We had a short chat and in conclusion I said, ‘I hope things get better for you’. The depth of his simple reply, ‘So do I’, was betrayed by the need for inclusion. Today the Gospel calls us to contemplate who we encounter each day and who are we called to encounter? Who is it we invite to our table and who do we fail to invite?Email this Print This Page
