About Today Readings

Acts 2:36-41. Psalm 32(33):4-5, 18-20, 22. John 20:11-18

The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord – Psalm 32(33):4-5, 18-20, 22.

‘I have seen the Lord.’

Personally, we may not have had a one-on-one meeting with Jesus – or have we? Mary Magdalene did not recognise Jesus when he approached her outside the tomb. What she did eventually recognise was his voice. ‘Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher).’ What a beautiful exchange!

Do I ever meet Jesus personally? When, in this day and age? Do I recognise him in the people I work with daily, or even pass on the streets casually, especially those who are less-attractive? Do I ever hear his voice speaking to me, quietly urging me on, when I have prayed to him regarding a particular matter?

These occasions can come when we least expect them. Today’s gospel story urges us to become more aware of the voice of Jesus in our life. Can I be as sensitive as Mary Magdalene to Jesus calling my name?
