Be prepared
As we draw near to the close of this liturgical year, our Gospel readings will be focusing on end times. Many of the events spoken by Jesus in today’s Gospel have been taking place over the centuries, such as the dreadful wars and natural catastrophes. And sadly, at the time of writing, these are continuing during our life-time as we struggle to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. But Jesus encourages us to be prepared, to remain firm in our faith. He asks us to be ‘rooted and stable’ while remaining ready to shed everything. He constantly reminds us that without him as the centre of our faith, we will be lost. Listening to the daily news makes it easy to believe that our world situation is growing worse. Let us pray to Jesus to help us remember that our future lies in his hands and that nothing can destroy or hurt us if we remain true to him.
