Isaiah 55:10-11. From all their afflictions God will deliver the just – Ps 33(34):4-7, 16-19. Matthew 6:7-15.
God’s creation
One thing that’s lost on many people is just how prophetic the Jewish way of seeing the world actually was. Other ancient belief systems across the globe considered the sun, moon and stars as divine, believed the physical world imbued with other spirits and powers, and that the universe was and always would be eternal. The Jewish people, strangely, held to a concept of a God who created and then oversaw a mere material universe designed for human flourishing.
Extraordinarily, it’s only in the last century or so that science has revealed how accurate they were. We now know we live in a universe with a starting point (the Big Bang), implying the existence of an external creator. The physical laws that govern everything in our universe were miraculously fine-tuned to the tiniest degree to allow planets and life to develop. And the chance our biology could have developed through natural processes has been calculated to be miniscule. Hallowed be God’s name, indeed.
