About Today Readings

St Francis de Sales

Hebrews 10:1-10. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will – Psalm 39(40):2, 4, 7-8, 10, 11. Mark 3:31-35.

Jesus, we are overawed and grateful to be called your brothers and sisters

This reading fills me with mixed emotions, because on the one hand I feel a little sorry for Jesus’ mother and brothers who were outside looking for Jesus, and on the other, I feel delighted that Jesus is putting all of us on equal footing as his mother or brothers with regard to our belonging to him. I believe Jesus treasured his mother and brothers, and of course recognised their concern in looking for him. However, he knew how powerful this would be to those sitting with him, that he declared them to be as close to him as his family, if they did the will of his father. Thank you, Jesus, as I am in that crowd sitting around you, and I love the fact that you called me your sister on this day. Grant me the grace and strength to always do my best to do the will of our Father.
