Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord – Psalm 121(122):1-5
‘Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.’
One of the most beautiful passages in the Hebrew scriptures is the invitation to go rejoicing to the house of the Lord. Central to this invitation is joy at coming together to raise our minds and hearts to God in a place set aside for this purpose. We bring with us to God’s house our daily efforts to live in response to his will for us. Living in a way attentive to the will of God is not something imposed on us. It is a call for all human beings who have all been made in the image and likeness of God our Father.
We are invited to receive God’s love and then to enter into a loving relationship with God. The whole of our being is caught up in this. And so we go rejoicing, glad to be returning to the house of the Lord.
