Proverbs 21:1-6, 10-13. Guide me, Lord, in the way of your commands – Psalm 118(119):1, 27, 30, 34-35, 44. Luke 8:19-21.
Your mother and brothers want to see you
Pia: Weren’t you a bit rude to your family, Jesus? Shouldn’t you invite the crowd to let them through, welcome them, and then keep preaching? Don’t families need all the support they can get?
Jesus: Good question, Pia. Yes, families are important. But they can swallow us up. They are not God. I was called to show battlers that God loves each of them and wants their hearts. They are God’s family and mine, too.
Pia: Yes, that’s your mission, Jesus, but family is family and must come before strangers.
Jesus: They aren’t strangers, Pia. They are brothers and sisters whom God loves and calls to hear and keep his words. That’s what I was trying to tell them. Not that I love my relatives less than my hearers, but that God does not love my hearers less than my family. Haven’t you sometimes had to choose between God’s calling and your family?
