About Today Readings

Christmas Day.
Isaiah 52:7‑10. Psalm 97(98):1-6. Hebrews 1:1-6. John 1:1-18.
All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God – Psalm 97(98):1-6.

‘No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.’

Here at Jesus’ birth we witness the creativity of God. Jesus is so thoroughly human that he enters the world like any other baby. He is so intimately caught up in embodied life that he is totally dependent on his parents.

All life is resplendent in his presence. He comes as ‘light’ ever shining even in the midst of darkness. He is the one who makes God known.

As the late Jesuit poet Peter Steele proclaimed, Jesus, the Word made flesh, is ‘the eloquence of God.’ May we open our hearts to the beauty made manifest in Jesus.
