About Today Readings

St Louis Grignion de Montfort

Acts 11:19-26. All you nations, praise the Lord – Psalm 86(87):1-7. John 10:22-30.

‘The works I do in my Father’s name are my witness’

What does it mean to be a Christian? Jesus invites us to hear his voice and follow him. For the early Christians, following Jesus meant persecution, yet they persisted. Gentiles and Jews alike were drawn to the grace, faith and steadfast devotion of their leaders, and the church grew.

Jesus tells us that he does his work in God’s name. Do I live in a way that draws others closer to God? Am I prepared to face persecution and derision if I stand up for my beliefs? Or do I stay where it is safe, sharing my faith only with other followers, worshipping only from the safety of inside an established church?

What would be different about my life if I loved God deeply?
