This is how to pray

Today’s readings are a textbook on how to pray. The Lord’s Prayer is given by Jesus in response to the disciples’ request that he teach them how to pray. This beautiful prayer contains all that is needed to follow Jesus in right relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and in peace with God, ourselves and our brothers and sisters. It is a recipe for peace and justice, a rule of life and an assurance of God’s loving care for us. In your prayer today, take one phrase or word spoken by Jesus, and ponder it in your heart in the context of your life. ‘Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven.’ Always begin as Jesus does, with the Father. That is how to pray. And know that the Lord is close to the broken-hearted.
