A tangled garden
Jesus explains the parable of the weeds and the seeds, where good seeds are the children of God and the weeds are planted by the evil one. Of course, we can stay with the polar opposites of good people and bad people. But it’s also possible to think of the good and not-so-good mixed in ourselves and in our days.
We are each a tangled garden: the sturdy plants of our human perseverance grow to support the beautiful and fragile blooms of our kindness and creativity. But right there in the mix are the strangling, thorny weeds of our weakness, cruelty, pettiness and laziness. In God’s kingdom here and now, keeping on top of the weeds takes commitment.
Gardener of all Life and Sower of Seeds, help us to cultivate the good.
