About Today Readings

Daniel 2:31-45. Give glory and eternal praise to him! – Daniel 3:57-61. Luke 21:5-11.

Live our days in faithfulness and justice

Today we live in extraordinary times. The 24-hour media cycle rolls across our days, breathlessly assuring us that an uncurable pandemic will overwhelm us, or that a genocidal war in eastern Europe will overthrow the world order, of at least that our housing industry will collapse. When King Nebuchadnezzar summons Daniel to interpret his dream, we see a frightened man trying to control the future. When we listen to Jesus talk to his Apostles about the fall of the Temple, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the coming of the end times, we hear his confidence and wisdom. These things will happen. But we need not live in fear of them. Only the Father knows when all this will happen. We need to pay attention to living our days as Jesus has taught, in faithfulness and justice. There is still plenty of work for love to do.
