About Today Readings

Ss Michael, Gabriel & Raphael

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14. In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord – Psalm 137(138):1-5. John 1:47-51.

‘You will see heaven laid open, and the angels ascending and descending’

Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are mentioned in the Old and New Testaments. Respectively they are the great protector, bearer of good tidings and the divine healer. Roles perfectly expressed in the life and ministry of Jesus. In seeing Jesus with the eyes of faith, Nathanael did come to see heaven laid open as Jesus promised; so will we if we welcome him as our fellow traveller.

St Catherine of Siena once remarked, ‘All the way to heaven is heaven itself because Christ said, “I am the way”.’ In the sight of the angels, let us make today’s psalm response our own as we go about our daily business.
