Add a smiling face to all your gifts

Why are we good and kind to others? Is it out of a sense of duty, or a reward on earth or in heaven? The First Reading states that we give because God has given to us first. It starts with God’s initiative and our good deeds are in response to what we have first received. So why not add a smiling face to all our gifts? Similarly, the disciples in the Gospel are wondering what is in it for them. While Jesus promises rewards, he also warns of persecutions. In the end, no one can guarantee a fully healthy, happy and prosperous life. What we can be sure of is God’s love and faithfulness. We have been given this gift of life and we only have one chance at it. So let us make the most of it today and ‘pay it forward’ by sharing that love around with a smile.
