Acts 14:19-28. Your friends tell the glory of your kingship, Lord – Psalm 144(145):10-13, 21. John 14:27-31.
‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you’.
In today’s Gospel Jesus gifts us his peace. It is not a cure-all or fix for our own and the world’s problems but rather offers a way to face the struggles we encounter. It gives us courage. At times when we are unsure, worried, anxious or angry Jesus offers us a calmer way through. As he spoke of these words of peace, he himself was walking out to Gethsemane and his passion. That is why we say that Peace is relational. As the Father was with Jesus during his time of suffering, so too is Jesus with us when we struggle. The responsibility of receiving this gift of peace, this relationship, is to understand that we are instruments of his peace…
‘Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love
where there is injury, pardon
where there is doubt, faith….’
