About Today Readings

1 Corinthians 2:10-16. Psalm 144(145):8-14. Luke 4:31-37.

The Lord is just in all his ways—Psalm 144(145):8-14.

‘Be quiet!’

What impresses the bystanders most here is the authority with which Jesus speaks, and the power with which he confirms his teaching. A single word of command, and the man is delivered from the enemy of his salvation.

Lord, let me avail myself of this authority and this willing power to save. There are in me many things that hold me back from a daily closer following of you.

Give me the courage to address you, the Holy One of God, and ask you to bid all these things to come out so that I should find myself whole and healed.

There are many voices within me clamouring for this, clamouring for that. Let me, then, again address Jesus and ask him to calm these voices: ‘Be quiet!’
