Saint Raymond of Penyafort
1 John 4:7-10. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you – Psalm 71(72):1-2, 7-8. Mark 6:34-44.
Let us love one another
When I was young, on long trips my parents would sometimes play a tape called ‘The Kids Praise Album!’ an American ‘Maranatha!’ children’s Christian music production from 1980. The songs were playful and catchy. One that has stayed with me was a peppy tune adapted from this letter by St John the Evangelist. If you were to memorise a line from scripture, you could do worse than this, which comes close to summing up the Gospel in its entirety.
This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Of the scriptures, which could be more beautiful and more moving?
