About Today Readings

Bl. Peter To Rot

Hosea 8:4-7, 11-13. The house of Israel trusts in the Lord – Psalm 113B(115):3-10. ‘Matthew 9:32-38.

The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few’

In our first reading and psalm, we hear of some hopeless cases. People caught up in worshipping false idols, who no longer trust in the Lord.

In the Gospel, too, there are crowds of people, ‘harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd’.

Sometimes, it feels like we are the first ones to be living in a misguided, godless world. It brings me some strange comfort to know that this problem is not new.

Jesus tells us that ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few’. There are plenty of folks who need Jesus. Our challenge is to let go of our false idols and to answer the call to join the harvest.
