Galatians 1:13-24. Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way – Psalm 138(139):1-3, 13-15. Luke 10:38-42.
Listen to the Spirit
Luke introduces us to Martha, the busy one, and Mary, her listening sister. But it is in John’s Gospel we learn they also had a brother called Lazarus, and the certain village was called Bethany. Mary, we are told, has chosen the better part, to stop, sit and listen. Paul, in his letter to the Galatians today, writes of the many long journeys he made after he encountered the risen Lord on the way to Damascus. First, he spent some three years in Arabia. Then he returned to Jerusalem for a fortnight to meet with Peter and James. Soon he left again for Syria and Cilicia before beginning his missionary journeys. How often must he have stopped, sat and listened to the Spirit speaking gently in his heart? How often do we sit and listen to the Spirit? The Spirit of God is part of every journey we take.
