The Lord will prepare a banquet for every nation
Today the readings remind me of every year attending my parents’ ‘Work Christmas Parties’ (this memory is well over 40 years old). Every year, the invitation would be to attend both Christmas parties, where there would be an abundance of rich foods. All that was necessary for us kids would be that we just ‘turn up’. Everyone was welcome. Therein lies the mystery of our faith: a mysterious disproportion between what I can give and what the Lord makes. We, as children, all had as much as we wanted, and there was so much more left over.
There is no detail that escapes the notice of Jesus in today’s Gospel passage. Call to mind a time in your life where Jesus remembers your physical and spiritual concern. Remain in the deep and all-consuming care of Jesus.
