All Saints
Apocalypse 7:2-4, 9-14. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face – Psalm 23(24):1-6. 1 John 3:1-3. Matthew 5:1-12.
We pray the saints to intercede with God on our behalf
All Saints’ Day commemorates all the saints in heaven and is a time to consider the example saints offer us and to reflect on how we can imitate their lives. Many saints suffered greatly in their earthly lives, and we may too. While we must wait patiently for the kingdom of God, we feel that the souls of the saints may already be there, and we offer prayers to them to intercede with God on our behalf. These, we believe, are God’s people and we want to be God’s people too. We believe in him, follow the example of his Son, hope that the covenant will be fulfilled and that we will receive our ‘great reward in heaven’ (Mt 5:12). Just like the saints who are already there. Who will you pray for today? How has your understanding of the saints changed over time? What yet can you learn?
