About Today Readings

St Benedict.

Hosea 10:1-3, 7-8, 12. Psalm 104(105):2-7. Matthew 10:1-7.

Seek always the face of the Lord—Psalm 104(105):2-7.

‘Sow saving justice for yourselves, reap a harvest of faithful love.’

The disciples must have wondered and questioned the enormity of the task that Jesus was laying on their shoulders. He was commissioning them to carry the good news.

After months of companionship and friendship with Jesus, sharing and assisting him in his mission, they were on their own.

They were being sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, to the rough, tough ignorant people living on the outskirts of the towns and villages.

They were to visit the ones whom the scribes and Pharisees had deemed hopeless to bring the good news of God’s love.

Living simply, the disciples would rely on the hospitality of people. The Lord would prepare a way.
