About Today Readings

St John Chrysostom

Colossians 3:1-11. The Lord is compassionate to all his creatures – Psalm 144(145):2-3, 10-13. Luke 6:20-26.

You have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God

There is something wonderfully refreshing about new beginnings. And when the letter to the Colossians talks about stripping off the old self and being clothed in the new, we experience the sense of the lightness and freshness of spring, with all its potential for new growth.

Our lives are full of these new beginnings, moments when we put off old habits, attitudes and encumbrances to set out on a fresh path: a new job, a new home, a new commitment, or, maybe, just a new coat of paint. We keep going outside to look in wonder at the possibilities that have sprung into our lives because of this change.

With light hearts and resolute steps, let us work purposefully towards a renewed world where the poor, the hungry and those who mourn are blessed and fulfilled in a world where Christ is all and in all.
