Be ready to listen
How difficult it can be, at times, to find a way for people to hear us and understand! Jesus’ experience is one we have all shared in at some point.
Many common sayings reflect this reality: ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’, ‘catch-22’, ‘no-win situation’, ‘caught between a rock and a hard place’, ‘you can’t please all of the people all of the time’. Jesus’ conclusion was that wisdom would eventually be vindicated. God continues to speak to us through many different situations and people – through sinners and saints, conservatives and liberals, women and men, the young and the old, the illiterate and the educated. May we recognise Gods’ presence and voice in all, and be ready to listen.
