About Today Readings

Acts 17:15, 22 – 18:1. Heaven and earth are filled with your glory – Psalm 148:1-2, 11-14. John 16:12-15.

How has the Holy Spirit touched your life?

As Pentecost approaches, it is a good idea to take a few minutes to think about the ways in which the Holy Spirit has touched our lives since last Pentecost. We might even write a few of them down just to be reminded of how many reasons we have for gratitude. Perhaps we found courage to say or do something we had been avoiding. Perhaps we felt we understood someone a little better? Perhaps we recognised wisdom either in ourselves or someone else. Don’t rush this. Let a few things come to mind. Mary Mackillop said ‘gratitude is the memory of the heart’.

Jesus says that he has too much to tell his friends all at once but that the Holy Spirit will help them to appreciate the full picture, will lead them to ‘the complete truth’. This is a wonderful gift. We live and learn. We grow wiser. The Spirit leads us on.
