Uphold the truth
Giving advice, especially when it involves a generation gap, can be fraught. Adult children will honestly seek your opinion but then reject it because it doesn’t match with their daily life experience. While we may offer guidance in general principles, we need to keep some humility and understand they operate in different times and often with different societal expectations. St Paul in his letter to Timothy, however, has no fears on this score. His instruction is clear and is not something that changes with the times. The ‘Church of the living God upholds the truth and keeps it safe’. We pray that we always uphold the truth.
