Ash Wednesday
Joel 2:12-18. Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned – Ps 50(51):3-6, 12-14, 17. 2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2. Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18.
Make space for God in our lives
It feels like Ash Wednesday has arrived too quickly this year. I haven’t had enough time to prepare for Lent. Well, it’s here. And it’s today. No more waiting. No more preparation. Ash Wednesday might feel like New Year’s Eve – preparing with all the good intentions and resolutions. In truth, we are asked to rediscover fasting as a hidden act of love rather than a public performance. Prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Simple and profound at the same time. So why not take Ash Wednesday as a holy pause. A gentle but honest invitation to begin again. Maybe it’s the time to choose a Lenten practice that isn’t just about giving something up but about making space for God in our lives. Ash Wednesday calls me to turn back, to trust, and to begin the journey home.
