2 Corinthians 9:6-11. Happy are those who fear the Lord – Ps 111(112):1-4, 9. Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18.
Generosity of God
Ordinarily we hear today’s Gospel on Ash Wednesday, as we are beginning our time of Lenten observance. Today again we are reminded not to parade our good works. Even the First Reading is reminding us to be a cheerful giver. When I was growing up, we used to sing with gusto the song ‘God loves a cheerful giver, give it all you’ve got’.
How much more do we need when we hear in the reading of the Corinthians: ‘God will make sure that we will always have all that we need for ourselves in every possible circumstance.’
In the bleak of winter, at this time when daylight hours are so short, may we turn our minds, hearts and souls to a God who gives us more than we can infinitely imagine.
