Acts 5:17-26. The Lord hears the cry of the poor – Psalm 33(34):2-9. John 3:16-21.

Let our words and actions mirror what we believe

‘But whoever does the truth comes out into the light so that what is done may plainly appear as done in God.’

Sometimes it is important to look at ordinary people who have nothing to prove. It can be an antidote to watching those who wear masks as part of their roles. Politicians who appear incapable of answering questions are a case in point.

Pope Francis is startlingly real. He speaks simply and clearly, and his actions back up his message. As he tells us to pray for joy, that same joy radiates from him. He welcomes and blesses a child with disabilities. He washes the feet of men and women prisoners with reverent tenderness. Before he challenges us, he shows how that can be done.

That is what Jesus did. If we are to follow him, our words and actions must reflect what we say we believe.
