St John Eudes
Ezekiel 34:1-11. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want – Ps 22(23). Matthew 20:1-16.
God does not abandon his people
Often, we look at the readings with our current world view. We need to remember that these readings were a comfort to the people of the world of the Old Testament. The image of a shepherd was real to the people. It speaks of leaders being responsible for guiding and caring for the people, in protecting and nurturing the flock. God’s compassion is for the vulnerable. Even if those around us fail to protect us or care for us – God does not abandon his people. God’s love and justice remain with us, offering hope and restoration to those who feel lost or neglected. As we hear in the Gospel today, the generosity of God is not limited. It encourages us to live with gratitude, humility and trust in God’s abundant grace. Where in your life have you seen God’s humility and abundant grace? For this we give thanks to God.
