Apocalypse 4:1-11. Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, mighty God! – Psalm 150. Luke 19:11-28.
Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in small things . . .
It is the little things that matter: greeting the person at the check-out, giving way graciously in traffic, waiting patiently, being courteous when put on hold, speaking respectfully, listening non-defensibly to a grievance.
When I meet former students from years ago, it is kindness, joy and fun they remember. One said, ‘On cold mornings, you would get us to jump up and down to “Prepare ye the way of the Lord”’.
At the end of my first year at Fairfield, I decided to write a card for each girl in my Year 7 home class. On it, I described the special gift that person had. One might be a faithful friend, another caring, yet another kind or compassionate, honest or joyful. That was in 1969. Recently, I had lunch with nine women from that group. They all still had those cards.
