About Today Readings

Romans 6:12-18. Our help is in the name of the Lord – Psalm 123(124). Luke 12:39-48.

The Son of Man will come when you won’t expect

Stewart: I’ll be straight with you, Jesus. Psychologists now know that threatening beatings and sendings to the headmaster don’t work in changing behaviour. You’d be more effective if you were gentle and understanding, and spoke tenderly of love.

Jesus: Thanks so much for your helpful words, Stewart. Actually, I was talking to my disciples who were blown away by the Kingdom for which they were ready to sell their possessions and to give away the proceeds. My words weren’t meant to scare them but to be a reality check. Giving your life to the Kingdom takes you into a dangerous world. So I told them, ‘look at me. Is that how you want to live?’

Stewart: Thanks, Jesus. But if the Kingdom of God is that dangerous, why would anyone want to go there?

Jesus: Because it makes them come alive. And they know that I will be with them. Would you like to come along, Stewart?
