Ephesians 3:2-12. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation – Isaiah 12:2-6. Luke 12:39-48.
Stand ready
Jesus Christ changes everything. That is the message of St Paul in today’s first reading. The Resurrection reveals that we are made for union with God. It is in Jesus’ willingness to suffer and die that we see how much God abhors violence and stands with those who are powerless. Two thousand years on we can lose sight of the utter transformation rendered by the Cross and by the strange, paradoxical victory it represents. We can be, rightly, disheartened by how much has not changed.
Yet, Jesus calls us to be ready. The message to his disciples is a message for us too. Stand ready! Yes, for the day when all will be made one in God, but also for the many ways in which God is present to us on this day. Are we ready to receive the graces offered to us today?
