Wed 22nd. Chair of St Peter, Apostle. 1 Peter 5:1-4. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want—Ps 22(23). Matthew 16:13-19.

‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’
Peter’s profession of faith resounds through every age. Each member of the church repeats these words like a child learning to speak by imitating its parents. We all are built into this spiritual gathering, which has Peter as its foundation stone.
By the unbroken tradition of the church, we have our Holy Father, Pope Francis as the successor of that simple and profound fisherman. He holds the keys of the kingdom, just as Peter did so many years ago. We are built into the church with the Pope as foundation. On this feast of the Chair of St Peter, let us pray for Pope Francis, that his shepherding of the church be fruitful.
