About Today Readings

St Rose of Lima.

Judges 9:6-15. Psalm 20(21):2-7. Matthew 20:1-16.

Lord, your strength gives joy to the king — Psalm 20(21):2-7.

‘The first will be last, and the last, first.’

So often the pursuit of power leads to corruption. In the case of Abimelech, he murdered seventy brothers to achieve his ambition. But David, who in his plans and pursuits always put his trust in God, was ‘given his heart’s desire’.

We will keep in our prayers our Pope and all those in power in nations and communities that they will always rule with justice and compassion. Jesus gave us many parables including today’s to explain how God rewards all with a just response, though not always as the world sees it. Let us follow God’s laws and rely on his justice.
