You must not stop anyone from working miracles in my name
The Gospel begins with John telling Jesus: ‘Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name. We tried to stop him because he does not follow us’. Jesus immediately responds saying: ‘Do not stop him’, adding ‘whoever is not against us is for us.’ Perhaps the disciples are a bit jealous of this person’s ability to drive out demons. Maybe they also want to have the same kind of power. Today, Jesus is giving us an important lesson too. He is telling us that anyone who is not against us is for us. Some people follow Jesus in different ways. He looks at what a person is committed to and sees their discipleship in many ways. Prayer unites us with all the human race. May our prayer time be a good time for us to pray for all those who are committed to goodness, faith and justice – no matter which way they do this.
