Romans 6:12-18. Psalm 123(124). Luke 12:39-48.

Our help is in the name of the Lord – Psalm 123(124)

‘Stand ready’

Lord Jesus, you entrust all created things to your care, offering us the grace to use them responsibly. Repeatedly, you urge us always to be ready to account to God for our use of his gifts, because he may come at an hour we may not expect.

You encourage this readiness not to hold us in fear but to help us live to the full the only time of which we can be certain – this present time. There is so much that is unfinished in our lives – good resolutions unfulfilled, reconciliation with others deferred, prayers promised but offered half-heartedly, or, as yet, not at all!

Lord, help me to realise that my time is limited, and in your mercy give me the grace to live this day, and every day, with love and trust in you and with care for all around me.
