Jonah 3:1-10. A broken, humbled heart, O God, you will not spurn – Ps 50(51):3-4, 12-13, 18-19. Luke 11:29-32.
This generation will not receive a sign
Lord, your hearers asked for signs
That God had come to them in you.
They looked for lots of miracles
And failed to see you were the sign.
When war and weariness make us
Despair, we also ask for signs,
For healings and appearances,
To justify our failing faith.
But then you draw us to yourself.
To share your path of love that led
From faith to hope, to trial and death
And, through your rising, back to hope.
