About Today Readings

Apocalypse 15:1-4. Great and wonderful are all your works, Lord, mighty God – Psalm 97(98):1-3, 7-9. Luke 21:12-19.

Lord, help me to always sing your praises

Today’s first reading and psalm talk about victory and the marvellous things God has done for us: ‘Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the mountains sing together for joy.’ The Gospel, on the other hand, dwells on the great persecutions that are in store for a follower of God.

These are not contradictory. To be a disciple means both to glory in God’s abundance and generosity, and to suffer greatly in the name of God. Sometimes it means both at the same time.

Lord, help me to sing your praises in times of blessing as well as in times of great persecution.
