Keep the soil fertile
In today’s Gospel we hear of the parable of the sower. What are the weeds, the rocks and the birds that I encounter in today’s world? How might I turn myself into fertile ground? I must admit, I’m not quite ready to quit social media entirely, despite what I recognise as its ‘weed-like’ qualities. But are there ways I might limit its impact? Perhaps I can set timers or train my algorithm to show me wholesome content?
The challenge, always, is to be ‘in the world, but not of the world’. Easier said than done.
The nature of the ‘weeds’ might vary over time, but the way to keep the soil fertile remains unchanging. It sounds simple, but regular prayer, Mass, and time with scripture is the best way.
Lord, help me to be always open to your Word.
