Trust in God

Today is the feast day of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus. They are a family close to Jesus. We don’t know too much about Lazarus’ personality except that Jesus loved him very much and brought him back from the dead. Mary strikes me as somebody who is able to be in the moment, sitting and listening at Jesus’ feet because she knows that this is the most important thing. Martha, meanwhile, is close enough to Jesus to speak frankly. She points out that Mary isn’t helping her in the kitchen. Later, she runs to Jesus and tells him that Lazarus would not have died if he had been there. But for all this, she still has faith in Jesus. If we can’t be like Mary, tuned in to Jesus in such a way that the rest of the world falls away, let us be like Martha, speaking frankly and openly about our needs and trusting that God will help us.
