About Today Readings

Acts 17:15, 22 – 18:1. Psalm 148:1-2, 11-14. John 16:12-15.

Heaven and earth are filled with your glory! – Psalm 148:1-2, 11-14.

‘In him we live and move and have our being.’

Dear Lord, sometimes, when reading a familiar piece of scripture, a phrase leaps out and into our consciousness and lodges there. Today it’s that that we live and move and have our being in you. From childhood, those of us who have had the good fortune to be taught about you have known that you are everywhere.

When we were children it seemed that you were in the garden, around the next corner, under the bed, even in the cupboard. Now we know that it is not like that. Now we know that you are not outside but part of us. You are the air we breathe, the one who holds us gently, keeping us in existence by loving us and continuing the one act of creation. Is it too simple, dear Lord, to say that this is a deeply comforting phrase? Thank you for this revelation.
