Lord, help me to be unafraid

‘[F]or I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.’ (Luke 21:15)

In today’s Gospel, the disciples are warned and given instructions for coming persecutions. Jesus instructs them not to prepare their defence against their persecutors, but when the time comes that he will grant them wisdom and knowledge to defend themselves. He reassures them, ‘You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives’. (Luke 21:17-19)

Lord, as the world’s darkness grows, let me find courage in your words. Help me be unafraid to claim you as my Lord, God and Saviour, even in times of trial and persecution.
