About Today Readings

Jeremiah 18:18-20. Save me, O Lord, in your steadfast love – Psalm 30(31):5-6, 14-16. Matthew 20:17-28.

‘My times are in thy hand’

This line from today’s psalm really struck me. I remember as a child of about 10 having a strong image of God as a pair of hands that held me, safe, protected, nurtured. Although I have moved on from this image to one that is much less simple, the idea of God as protector and nurturer remains. The idea that my times are held by my God is one that is completely reassuring. It reminds me that all that happens to me is held by God. My life is held close by God, it is within his hands, always in front of God and never forgotten. If you are holding onto something, you know you have it. It is not forgotten, so our God never forgets us. What an incredible love this shows.
