About Today Readings

Ss Philip & James

1 Corinthians 15:1-8. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. John 14:6-14.

‘If you know me, then you will also know my Father’

One of the most beautiful Biblical references to Jesus, to me, comes from the Gospel of John, where he is described as the ‘Word’ of God. It’s a rich term, ‘word’. It’s an expression of meaning. It implies a communicator, God, and someone being communicated with, us.

A word also has a purpose – to be an expression of will. Thus, Jesus is an expression of God’s will. His words, his actions, his presence among us, express the will of God for us. And, perhaps just as importantly, the very act of us reading the words of the Scriptures reveals the will of God, to us. It brings us into relationship with God, the creator and source of the Word.

As we reflect on today’s Gospel, we might spend some time reflecting on how Jesus brings us into relationship with God.
