Treasure hidden in a field

St Ignatius Loyola is famous for popularising a form of imaginative prayer where we take a scripture passage and play it out in our head. We can visualise it as though on a TV screen or in 3D; we can take the part of any one of the characters; we can use our senses to see, hear, smell, taste or feel elements of the scene. Why not try it for this Scripture today? I wonder what your paddock would look like and what kind of treasure it might be? You could get into the mind of the merchant or even of the pearl. In any case, the key emotion today is happiness. Discovering the kingdom of God is like the joy of those two treasure hunters. So, let’s get our feelings involved – let’s experience the passion that will inspire us to pursue the things of God.
